Our museum is a resource for education and field trips, helping teachers to conduct enriched programming related to the region’s maritime culture and heritage. Our mission is to educate and inspire. The Herreshoff Marine Museum offers structured field trips and In School Education programs for K – 12th graders. The programs emphasize history, science, engineering, technology, innovation, and mathematics through hands-on activities related to the history of the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company and the Americas Cup competition. For 2013 we have updated our field trips to tie to Common Core and Next Generation curriculum standards.
- In addition, we have the following, related educational offerings:
- Senior project guidance and supervision (3 projects with Barrington recently)
- Summer sailing lessons and overnight trips with STEM content
- After school program in the boat shop
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT OUR PROGRAMS:
"Thank you so much for your hard work this summer and that of your staff. Our daughter had a wonderful time. She truly enjoyed it. You guys have lit a spark in her which is wonderful to see. Thank you"
"Thank you for offering a great program. We look forward to joining you next year."
"Our son attended the Herreshoff Seamanship Program this past summer (for the entire summer) and had an amazing time. Richard Feeny and his staff made our son's experience safe and fun – he finished the summer with an entire new skill set (sailing, knots, etc) and increased confidence. As parents, there is not much more we could ask for and that is what caused us to make this contribution."
