Baron
Marcel Bich
Baron Marcel Bich raced for the America's Cup four
times in eleven years. His pursuit of yachting's most
prestigious trophy resulted in his becoming one of
the most admired personalities in Cup history. His
1970 challenge was the first from outside the English-speaking
world. He pioneered the concept of multiple challenges
that altered and strengthened the America's Cup for
all time. When he raced his handsome 12-meter FRANCE
I, II, and III off Newport, it was with a characteristic
polished splendor. His vigorous participation in the
races of 1970, 1974, 1977, and 1980 not only highlighted
his spirit and determination, but immortalized him
as a most worthy Cup contender.
